Starting with a solid piece of lime timber, Joe has carved the face directly into the wood by hand, gradually developing the features, expression, hair and beard while retaining the natural live edge of the timber.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe depth and character of the face have been built through extensive individual carving and detailing rather than produced from a pattern or replicated design. Tool marks, changes in texture and the natural grain of the lime remain visible throughout the finished piece, showing the hand of the maker and the process involved in creating it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe original bark has been deliberately retained to form a dark live-edge surround, contrasting with the newly carved lime beneath and allowing the natural form of the timber to become part of the composition.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is Joe's own design and a one-of-a-kind piece.
