Our Story

Two Makers. One Home.

The Crafty Pebblers is a husband-and-wife artisan studio based in the Boyne Valley, Ireland, created by Pat and Joe from a shared love of making and natural materials.

Pat works with wool and fibre across a range of techniques, including needle felting, wet felting, weaving and handknitting, as well as creating the collectible Residents of Pebblewood. Joe works with timber, designing and individually carving and turning each of his pieces by hand.

Different materials and different skills, brought together by the same approach: thoughtful design, careful making and respect for the character of the materials themselves.

Our Way of Working

Everything from The Crafty Pebblers is individually made rather than mass produced. Even where a design or idea is revisited, no two pieces are exactly alike.

Natural materials are central to the work. Wool, alpaca, merino and timber are chosen for their character, quality and suitability for each piece. Packaging and presentation are selected with sustainability in mind, with unnecessary plastics avoided across the business.

Traditional crafting techniques sit alongside original design and the individual decisions that happen while something is being made. The result is work that retains the marks, variations and character of the making process rather than trying to disguise them.

Pebblewood

Pebblewood is our real garden in the Boyne Valley and an important part of the story behind The Crafty Pebblers.

Built and shaped by us over many years, it is home to trees, birdhouses, raised vegetable beds and the wildlife that has gradually made the garden its own. It is also where the idea of the Pebblers first began and, later, where the collectible Residents of Pebblewood found their home.

The garden continues to influence the materials, characters and woodland details that appear throughout our work, while keeping Pebblewood rooted in a real place rather than an imagined one.

We Make Things Properly

Making by hand takes time, but time alone isn't what gives handmade work its value. It is the decisions made along the way: choosing the material, developing the design, knitting, felting, weaving, carving, turning, finishing and knowing when a piece is complete.

That is the standard behind The Crafty Pebblers. Original work, individually made in the Boyne Valley, with attention to the materials, the details and the quality of the finished piece.
