Faela | Needle Felted Wolf Fibre Art
Faela is a one-of-a-kind needle felted wolf portrait, created by hand in the Boyne Valley and mounted on a naturally shaped piece of cherry timber.
Description
Her name is drawn from the Irish word faol, meaning wolf, giving the piece a subtle connection to Irish heritage and the landscape in which it was made.
The wolf's face is built up layer by layer using fine felting needles and natural merino wool. Dark and light fibres are carefully worked together to form the facial structure, markings, expression and distinctive blue eyes. The portrait is felted onto a wet felted white wool background, combining needle felting and wet felting to create depth and definition.
The irregular cherry timber mount is an integral part of the artwork. Its natural shape and edges have been retained, then carefully sanded and finished to preserve the individual character of the wood. Combined with the hand-felted portrait, it ensures that Faela is entirely one of a kind.
A story card is included, sharing the origin of Faela's name and a little of the making behind the piece.
This is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted artwork intended for display.
