The Woodlander | Original Hand-Carved Lime Wood Sculpture
The Woodlander is an original wood sculpture, designed and hand carved by Joe in the Boyne Valley, Ireland. Starting with a solid piece of lime timber, Joe has carved the face directly into the wood by hand, developing its rounded features, expressive eyes, full beard and heavily textured hair through individual cuts and careful shaping.
Description
The character of this piece comes particularly from the contrast between the smooth, deeply modelled facial features and the extensive carved texture surrounding them. The prominent cheeks, brows and softly smiling expression project forward from the timber, while repeated hand-carved cuts create the flowing hair and beard and give the sculpture considerable depth when viewed from different angles.
Rather than being produced from a pattern or replicated design, the sculpture has developed through the carving process itself. Individual tool marks, changes in texture and the natural grain and markings of the lime remain visible throughout the finished piece, showing both the hand of the maker and the material from which it was created.
The Woodlander is Joe's own original design and a one-of-a-kind piece. It cannot be reproduced exactly. The expression, individual carving marks and natural characteristics of the timber belong to this particular sculpture.
The piece can stand independently for shelf or surface display and also has a wire fitted to the reverse for wall hanging.

Shipping is calculated at checkout, based on the weight of your order. We deliver to Ireland, Northern Ireland and the European Union.
Every order is sent tracked. Orders within Ireland are tracked with no signature needed; international orders are sent by registered post and signed for on delivery.
Every item currently available on our website has already been handmade and is ready for dispatch. Orders are usually dispatched within 3 to 5 working days. Commissioned pieces are made to order and take longer. We agree a timeline with you before any commission begins.
