Woodland Face | Original Hand-Carved Lime Wood Sculpture

€225.00

Woodland Face is an original wood sculpture, designed and hand carved by Joe in the Boyne Valley, Ireland. Starting with a solid piece of lime timber, Joe has carved the face directly into the wood by hand, gradually developing the features, expression, hair and beard while retaining the natural live edge of the timber.

Description

The depth and character of the face have been built through extensive individual carving and detailing rather than produced from a pattern or replicated design. Tool marks, changes in texture and the natural grain of the lime remain visible throughout the finished piece, showing the hand of the maker and the process involved in creating it.

The original bark has been deliberately retained to form a dark live-edge surround, contrasting with the newly carved lime beneath and allowing the natural form of the timber to become part of the composition.

This is Joe's own design and a one-of-a-kind piece. It cannot be reproduced exactly, both because it is carved individually by hand and because the grain, shape and live edge of each piece of timber are unique.

Care
To care for your hand-carved wood piece, keep it indoors in a dry environment and away from direct heat, strong sunlight and excessive moisture. Dust gently using a soft, dry cloth or a clean, soft-bristled brush. Avoid water, household cleaning products or abrasive materials, as these may affect the natural timber and its finish. As a natural material, wood can respond to changes in temperature and humidity over time. Small changes are part of the character of a hand-carved piece made from solid timber.
